L.M. “BUDDY” PREUSS

Funeral services for L.M. “Buddy” Preuss III, 80 of Giddings, Texas, are scheduled for Friday, January 12, 2024, at 10:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Giddings with Tim Pitts officiating.

Burial will follow in the Giddings City Cemetery.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. and on Friday, January 12, 2024, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home. The family will be present for visitation on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Buddy was born on March 1, 1943, to Louis Marcus Jr. and Ruth (Schkade) Preuss in Giddings, Texas.

Buddy married the love of his life Louise (Wilson) Preuss on April 8, 1966, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Giddings. To this union they were blessed with two daughters and three sons.

Buddy was a business owner in Giddings where he owned and operated the Giddings Times and News, providing a quality newspaper for the area.

He was also a member of the Giddings Noon Lions and the Chamber of Commerce, where he served his community for many years.

When Buddy wasn’t working, he enjoyed gardening, taking walks with his wife and fishing. Buddy also enjoyed music, playing the piano, singing and writing poetry, but most of all spending time with his family.

Buddy passed away the morning of Friday, January 5, 2024, at his home in Giddings with his family by his side after a hard fought battle with cancer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, L.M. Preuss Jr. and Ruth Preuss Schurmeier; one infant sister, Lorraine Margaret Preuss; stepmother, Nate Preuss; and stepfather, Ben Schurmeier.

Buddy is survived by his wife, Louise Preuss of Giddings; five children, Rita and husband, Jerry Hudson, of Giddings, Amber Preuss of La Grange, Samuel and wife, Dawn Preuss, of Dime Box, Sloan and wife, Angie Preuss, of Giddings, and Matthew Preuss of Giddings; three grandchildren, Brett Denkler and partner, Emily Reinhart, of Colorado, Vivian Preuss of College Station, and Cody Weatherford of Dime Box; three siblings, Ronna and husband, James Britton, of Giddings, Karen Bryant of Austin, and Ernest and wife, Lynn Preuss, of Giddings; as well as sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews.

Serving as pallbearers will be Cody Weatherford, Paul Schlesinger, Brett Denkler, James “Smokey” Zoch, Jason Locke, and Anthony “Sarge” Muniz. Honorary pallbearers will be Nelson Zoch, Paul Fischer, Roger Turner, David True, Virgil Birnbaum and Jimmie Luecke.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorials be made to the Samaritans Purse, Himalayan Cataract Project, Texas Lions Camp. or to the charity of one’s choice.
