Ruddies “Rudy” Roy Zwernemann

Ruddies “Rudy” Roy Zwernemann, 76, of Deanville, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 24, 2023, surrounded by family.

He was born at home on March 30, 1947, in Old Dime Box, to the late Elton and Laura Zwernemann.

After graduating from Caldwell High School in 1966, Rudy began working for General Telephone Company of Bryan until he was drafted into the U.S. Army on August 4, 1966.

He married Cynthia Ann Oppermann on October 9, 1966, and together they shared 57 years of love, laughter and happiness.

Rudy completed his active- duty service in the Army on August 2, 1968.

He returned to work for the telephone company, and later began working at the tie plant in Somerville where he remained for 35 years until his retirement in 2006.

In his younger adult years, Rudy enjoyed playare ing basketball, softball and co-ed volleyball.

He loved coon hunting, fishing, and serving as a Little League Baseball coach for the Deanville Reds for many years.

One of his passions was barbecuing for family as well as for community fundraisers, and he was always ready for a game of 42 dominoes or Skat with the family.

Watching football and making homemade sausage were some of his favorite things to do in the fall.

Rudy cherished family above all, spending countless moments teaching and guiding his kids and his grandkids in his own special way. His love for them was evident in every lesson and interaction.

Rudy found joy in the simple pleasures of life, and his memory will live on through the laughter and love shared with family and friends.

Rudy was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Laura; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Emil and Aline Oppermann; and brother-in-law, G.A. Lindner.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Cindy; and leaves behind a legacy through his family: children, Michael Zwernemann and wife, Karen, of Frenstat, Shari Beck and husband, John, of Corsicana, Sharon Albrecht and husband, Curtis, of Mission Valley, bonus daughter, Michelle Zwernemann of Giddings; siblings, Dorothy Lindner of Giddings, Gene Zwernemann and wife, Barbara, of Bryan, Gary Zwernemann and wife, Becky, of Deanville, Nancy Hamilton and husband,Art, of Washington, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Cody (Kim) Zwernemann, Grace Zwernemann, Laura Zwernemann, John Beck III, Rudy Beck, Sarah Beck, Justin (Miranda) Albrecht, Amanda (Noah) Barron, JessicaAlbrecht; and greatgrandchildren, Collins Zwernemann, Baby Jane Albrecht (on the way) and Baby Lawson Zwernemann (on the way).

In addition to immediate family, he will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 2, 2023, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

The funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2023, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Deanville.

Interment will follow at St. John’s Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers include Michael Zwernemann, John Beck, Jr., Curtis Albrecht, Cody Zwernemann, John Beck, III, Rudy Beck, Justin Albrecht and Noah Barron.

Honorary pallbearers include Kim Zwernemann, Grace Zwernemann, Laura Zwernemann, Sarah Beck, Miranda Albrecht, Amanda Barron and Jessica Albrecht.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Lutheran Church of Deanville, Lyons Evangelical Church, Brazos Valley Hospice or to a charity of donor’s choice.
