Lady Jays, Hornets players named to Academic All-State

Even though basketball season has been over for a few months, area players are still receiving honors -- including academic honors. Both the Snook Lady Jays and the Caldwell Hornets had basketball players named to the Texas High School Coaches Association’s (THSCA) 2024 Academic All-State Teams -- led by Snook’s Alexis Macik being named to the THSCA 2024 Girls Basketball Academic All-State Elite Team, which is the highest honor given by the THSCA.

Lady Hornets finally enter TGCA Top 25 poll

With a 23-8 season record and sitting in first in District 22-4A with a perfect 9-0 record, the Lady Hornets have finally entered the Top 25 Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 4A poll at Number 24. As of press time, Caldwell only has one district game remaining against Manor New Tech before moving on to the UIL Class 4A Softball Playoffs.

Bottom of seventh hit lifts Lady Jays over Lady Yeguas

In historic fashion, it came down to a bottom of the seventh bunt to break a 7-7 tie for the Lady Jays to defeat the Lady Yeguas Friday night 8-7. With two outs and runners on second and third, on the first pitch, Kaylie Holden bunted towards first base, reaching first base safely and scoring Alexis Macik from third for the win.

Snook, Somerville Area track results

The Snook and Somerville track teams competed at the Area Track & Field Meet for District 25-2A and 26-2A last week. Varsity Boys * 100-meter dash: Keith Crawford Jr., Somerville, 11.80, fifth.

At the Area Track Meet for district 25-2A and 26-2A, Vela won gold in both the boys 800-meter run and in the boys high jump. His winning time in the 800 was 2:16.98 and his winning leap in the high jump was 5 feet 8 inches.

Braynija Pool

In the rivalry game last week against Somervile, Pool almost hit for the cycle -- only missing hitting a single. She went 3-for-3 from the plate, with a double, a triple and an inside the park home run.
