Lady Yeguas fall to Snook in play-in for UIL playoffs

In classic rivalry fashion, the Lady Jays defeated the Lady Yeguas in a play-in match to determine third and fourth place in District 25-2A and seeding for the UIL Class 2A Volleyball Playoffs.Though the match was a seesaw battle, Snook won in straight sets 2520, 26-24, 26-24.

Hornet offense stalls in 48-27 La Grange loss

Caldwell got off to the fast start they wanted last Friday against La Grange, but offensive inconsistency and defensive breakdowns after that proved too much to overcome.La Grange won 47-27 in Caldwell to improve to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in district play.

Granger running game tough as Somerville falls in fourth loss

The Somerville Yeguas got too far behind early and fell to unbeaten Granger 58-14 last Friday in Granger.Granger improved to 7-0 and 4-0 in district play with a first-place showdown coming up against Burton this Friday.

Ellis places 23rd at XC regionals

Caldwell’s Spencer Ellis was the Hornet’s fastest runner at the UIL Region 3 Cross Country Championships in the boys Class 4A race, finishing 23rd.The regional meet was held at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville last week.Ellis’s time was 16:56.90 in the 5k race.

Snook falls to Weimar 20-7

The Snook Bluejays, now playing a JV schedule, fell to Weimar 20-7 last Wednesday, Oct. 15, in Snook.Snook’s score came on a 42-yard run by Michael Eaton. Eaton finished with 15 carries for 88 yards.Wyatt Lopez carried two times for 19 yards and was 5-6 in passing for 55 yards.

The Somerville Yeguas bounced back last Friday with a 54-34 home win over Bartlett, balancing running and passing for 504 total yards, and kept their playoff hopes alive.Somerville improved to 5-3 overall and 3-2 (counting a forfeit win over McDade).

Last Friday, Anette Reyna had a triple double to lead the Lady Yeguas past their rivals, the Snook Lady Jays, in four sets 26-28, 28-26, 25-19, 25-14.Reyna had 21 kills, 18 digs and 15 assists to lead Somerville overall in the win.
