Caldwell’s Spencer Ellis made his first trip to the AAU Junior Olympic Games, competing on Wednesday, July 30, in the Mens 17-18 2K steeplechase.The event was hosted at Humble High School over July 26 through Aug. 2.Ellis competes for team CTX 5.0 out of Cameron.

Snook’s Cornell Curry is the latest gold medalist for Burleson County -- winning the 10U boys high jump at the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation’s (TAAF) 2025 Summer Games of Texas over July 31Aug. 3 in Bryan-College Station.C. Curry competes for the Snook Youth Track & Field Team.

Burger sale to benefit Somerville Youth Sports

The First United Methodist Church of Somerville’s men’s group will host a hamburger sale beginning at noon on Saturday, Aug.2, at the church’s Family Life Center.Proceeds from the sale will benefit the Somerville Youth Sports Association members.A burger, chips and a cookie will be sold for $10.

Local horse inducted into organization Hall of Fame

Heza Hugable Jet, a 2014 gelding owned by Sabine Lazo of Caldwell, was recently inducted into the Open Horse Show Association’s (OHSA) Hall of Fame as part of the inaugural group to receive the honor.

Meet the Yeguas

The annual “Meet the Yeguas” will be Thursday, Aug. 7, at 6:30 p.m. at the high school gym.The event will feature the coaches and athletes for volleyball, football and cross country as well as the band and cheerleaders.

The annual “Meet the Bluejays” will be Friday, Aug. 8 in Snook.The event will feature the coaches and athletes for volleyball, football, and cross country and the cheerleaders.That night will also feature the volleyball alumni game at 7 p.m. and “Midnight Football Practice” from 10 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Locals saddle up for State 4-H Horse Show

Several Burleson County residents saddled up and showed up for this year’s State 4-H Horse Show in Bryan from July 19-26.The show is held annually and is open to 4-H members ages 8-18, with classes from barrel racing to jumping.
