Benefit for Ward set for Nov. 10

There will be a benefit fundraiser for Sonja Ward on Nov. 10 from noon until 6 p.m. at the Burleson County Expo Center.The event is to raise money to help offset her medical bills due to Stage 4 ovarian cancer and lesions on her spleen, adrenal glands, pancreas and liver.

Holy Rosary Cemetery seeks donations

Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Cemetery in Frenstat is asking for donations to help cover the cost of the cemetery’s upkeep.The cemetery is a resting place for many early settlers of Czech Catholic descent and was designated as a Historic Texas Cemetery in 2004.

Firefighters battling grass fires

Volunteer firefighters around the county are getting overwhelmed with grass fires.In the last week, firefighters responded to multiple calls under the same dry conditions with pastures becoming tinder boxes for fire hazards.

The annual Scare on the Square is this Saturday at 5 p.m. around the Burleson County Courthouse in downtown Caldwell.This year’s event will be sponsored by the Harrie P. Woodson Memorial Library in Caldwell.“Trunk-or-Treating” will be from 5-8 p.m.
