Cooking Well with Diabetes classTexas A&M AgriLife Extension is hosting a four-session cooking school called “Cooking Well with Diabetes” on Fridays from 10 a.m. until noon, beginning on Oct. 25.The cost is $20 per person and includes class workbooks, recipes, recipe demonstrations and food samples.

Burleson Co. issues disaster declaration

Burleson County Judge Keith Schroeder has issued a local disaster declaration for the county due to wildfire threats.The declaration was issued on Friday, Oct. 18, and will continue until this Friday, when Burleson County commissioners will vote on whether to continue it.

Somerville residents enjoy downtown celebration

Last Saturday, residents of Somerville were treated to a fall festival like only the Burleson County Chamber of Commerce can hold.Over 500 area residents attended the fourth annual “Downtown Somerville Celebration” -- filled with fall decor, live music and even a kangaroo.

Area man charged in unlawfully possessing gun

A 40-year-old Ledbetter man was arrested by a DPS trooper on Tuesday, Oct. 8, on a felony unlawful possession of a firearm charge after a traffic stop on State Highway 21 West.Michael Wayne Tyra was charged and is now free on $7,500 in bonds, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Somerville cycle rider killed in crash on F.M. 60

A 69-year-old Somerville man was killed Thursday night, Oct. 10, when his motorcycle crashed into a car on F.M. 60 in west Brazos County near Vincent Road.James Jolly was pronounced dead at the scene by Brazos County Pct. 2 Justice of the Peace Terrance Nunn, said DPS Sgt. Justin Ruiz.

Man charged in stalking case

A Caldwell man was arrested on Monday, Oct. 7, on a felony stalking warrant in connection with harassment of a Beaver Creek woman.Billy Carl Fannin Jr., 25, was charged and remains in Burleson County custody on $10,000 in bond on that charge, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

Woman injured in truck, car wreck

A 30-year-old Caldwell woman was injured on Friday afternoon in a collision involving a City of Caldwell truck and a car at the State Highway 21 West and F.M. 908 intersection.The accident occurred at about 4:05 p.m.
