Deputies investigate car, truck rig crash on SH 36

Burleson County sheriff’s deputies are investigating an early Thursday morning, Sept. 12, collision in which the driver of a car was seriously injured after he swerved into the lane of an oncoming trucktractor rig on State Highway 36 South, just past F.M. 976.

Kelly gets 50 years in assault on county jailer

A Lee County man was sentenced to 50 years in prison on Wednesday, Sept. 11, in a felony assault on a public servant charge in connection with a July 31, 2023, incident involving an assault on a Burleson County Sheriff’s Office jailer.

Somerville to OK budget, tax rate for 2024-25

The Somerville City Council was scheduled to approve ordinances adopting a 67.695 cent tax rate and a $4.1 million budget at their Tuesday, Sept. 10, meeting.In their Aug. 20 meeting, the council approved that tax rate, the same as last year, following a public hearing. The rate is 58.

Woman dies in truck wreck off SH 36 in Washington Co.

A College Station woman was killed late Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 3, when she lost control of a northbound truck and crashed into a tree just south of Wolf Creek in Washington County, near the Burleson County line.
