2025 Burleson County Fair sets record with over $3.3M in sales

The 2025 Burleson County Fair was once again a success last week, breaking the $3 million mark for the first time in fair history with an estimated total sales of $3,381,450 -- a new fair record.This year’s estimated total soars past the 2024 total of $2,312,271.

Building burns at Freedom Ranch

Birch Creek and Somerville volunteer firefighters responded to a Thursday, Sept. 18, fire that burned down a small wooden building at Freedom Ranch off Park Road 57, near the F.M. 60 intersection.

Driver crashes at PR 57, F.M. 60

A one-car accident late Saturday night, Sept. 20, at the Park Road 57 and F.M. 60 intersection sent two persons to a Bryan hospital.The accident occurred at 11:07 p.m. when Peter Brian Stevens, 47, of Somerville was traveling north in a 2021 Kia K-5 car on Park Road 57 approaching the F.M.

Fire burns hay bales, pasture

A fire burned up about 6 acres of pasture land and three round hay bales on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 1950 Private Road 4009 off F.M. 3058, and Caldwell volunteer firefighters responded to extinguish it.Firefighters responded to a controlled burn that got out of control at about 1:04 p.m.

Two injured in wreck on F.M. 60

Two persons were injured and transported by ambulance to a Bryan hospital after a Saturday night, Sept. 20, one-car accident on F.M. 60 near County Road 132.The accident occurred at 10:24 p.m. when Kaydence Amelia Osborne, 19, of Stockdale was driving southwest on F.M.

Commissioners approve increased tire disposal rates

Burleson County commissioners approved new rates for tire disposal, effective immediately, at their Monday, Sept. 22, meeting Rates will now begin at $5 per tire for tires with a diameter of 20” or less, $15 for tires with a diameter of 21” or more and $25 for tractor or equipment tires.

Kolkhorst receives new committee appointment

Senator Lois W. Kolkhorst (R-Brenham) was recently named to the new Senate and House Select Committees on Civil Discourse & Freedom of Speech in Higher Education by Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Speaker Dustin Burrows.
