Lee County sheriff arrested on DWI charge

Lee County Sheriff Garrett Durrenberger, a former Burleson County chief deputy, was arrested by the DPS on Sunday morning, Sept. 21, on a DWI charge in Lee County.Durrenberger, 38, elected by Lee County voters in 2024 after being appointed in 2023, was released on Sunday morning.

Appeals court upholds election lawsuit ruling

The 10th Court of Appeals in Waco has affirmed an order from a Burleson County district court that dismissed a lawsuit against county officials by Michelle Mahfouz and Shannon Higgins.Mahfouz and Higgins were seeking to replace computerized voting machines with paper ballots.

CISD lowers tax rate for ’25-26

The Caldwell ISD school board has lowered tax rates once again for 2025-2026.At its Monday, Sept. 22, meeting, the board approved setting the district’s total tax rate at $0.8161 per $100 valuation.This is lower than both the no-new-revenue rate of $0.8856 and the voter approval rate of $0.

Caldwell Council meeting postponed to Sept. 30

The Caldwell City Council has postponed its scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 16, meeting to Sept. 30 to consider a request for a land use change by Good Fences Texas LP, for Quinn Waters Subdivision off County Road 105, a project for more than 500 homes.

Man arrested in felony drug case

A Paige man was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 9, on a felony drug charge after a Burleson County sheriff’s deputy’s traffic stop on State Highway 21 West.
