Somerville council approves tax rate, budget

The Somerville City Council approved a 74.116 cents tax rate for 2025-26, a 7.402 cents increase per $100 valuation from 2024-25, and a $3,581,057 budget at their Tuesday, Sept. 9, meeting.The council approved an ordinance for the tax rate, up from last year’s rate of 67.

Creative Memories Quilt Guild announces winners

The Creative Memories Quilt Guild recently announced its winners from its annual quilt show, which was held on Friday, Sept. 12, and Sat., Sept. 13, at the Caldwell Civic Center.This year’s show included a total of 87 entries.

Every year, September marks the return of one of Caldwell’s most popular traditions, and this year was no exception, with roughly 8,500 people from all over the state -- and even beyondflocking to downtown Caldwell for the annual Kolache Festival.

Snook HS announces its homecoming royalty

Snook High School recently announced its 2025 Homecoming Court.The Homecoming Queen and King will be announced during the Snook-Somerville football game at 7 p.m. this Friday, Sept. 19, at Bluejay Stadium.This year’s queen hopefuls are Marissa Batiste, Melanie Parmer and Aniyah Stringfellow.

POSGCD opposes GMA 8 plans

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District (POSGCD) Board does not support recently discussed Desired Future Conditions (DFCs) for regional water planning in GMA 8 and has instructed General Manager Gary Westbrook to vote against them.

Tractor, speed rake stolen from home on F.M. 60

Burleson County sheriff’s deputies are investigating the theft of a tractor, a speed rake and a floor jack, stolen in late August or early September from a home in the 800 block of F.M. 60 West.The owner reported the equipment stolen after discovering them missing on Tuesday, Sept.

Area man charged in solicitation of minor online

A 23-year-old Beaver Creek man was arrested on Monday, Sept. 8, on in College Station on a felony Burleson County warrant for online solicitation of a minor.Moses Burns was charged with the third degree felony, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office, who investigated the case.
