CARL TURNER

Graveside services for Carl Edwin Turner, 77, of Caldwell, will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021, at the Caldwell Masonic Cemetery with Brother Rick Mitchell officiating.

Visitation was held from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2021, at Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home.

Mr. Turner died peacefully on Sunday, Jan. 3, 2021, in Bryan.

Carl Edwin Turner was born on April 16, 1943, in Lake Providence, La., to Clifton Roy Turner and Marie Francis (Schrock) Turner.

He was the third child born to his parents of eight siblings.

Carl was a high school graduate and attended college.

Carl was a Baptist preacher in 1969 at Tower Baptist and the preacher for the Henderson Heights Baptist Church in 1971. He even performed a ceremony in their backyard for his wife’s cousin.

Working pipeline jobs, he moved to Bryan, but later moved to Caldwell, where he met the love of his life, Violet Weber Turner.

An ever-faithful husband, he took care of her until her death in 2015.

He worked for many years for Clajon Companies doing pipeline work.

Carl could work on any type of motor and was very prolific at fixing just about anything.

In later years, he opened his own shop, Westside Garage, and while he could work on any type of vehicle, he could work magic in the oilfield working on pump motors.

He enjoyed the outdoors, and in earlier years loved to be on his boat fishing.

Carl enjoyed spending time with his kids and especially his grandchildren.

Carl was an excellent cook and enjoyed barbecuing for his family.

His great pride was his grandchildren.

He could tell a great story and loved to joke around.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Violet Ann (Weber) Turner; his parents, Clifton Roy Turner Sr., and Marie Francis (Schrock) Turner; his infant brother, Clifton Roy Turner Jr.; and his sister-in-law, Carolyn Turner.

Carl is survived by his children, Michael Edwin Turner and wife, Corina, and Tavia Lynn Sears and husband, Darrell “Adam”; his grandchildren, Stephanie Nicole Turner, Ashley Marie Turner, Lindsey Ann Turner, Joseph Michael Melendez, and Jenna Marie Melendez; his brothers, John Robert “Rob” Turner and wife, Sue, Jimmy David Turner, and Roger Allen Turner and wife, Debbie; his sisters, Roma Charlene Pearce and husband, Verle, Brenda Gail Smith and husband, Charles, and Cynthia Kaye Hollis and husband, Derrell; numerous nieces and nephews.
