The Somerville Yeguas led by as much as 10 points in the second half but slowed down offensively after scoring leader Keith Crawford fouled out late in a 7164 overtime loss on Feb. 20 to Big Sandy Dallardsville in bi-district in Willis.

Hornets earn All-District basketball team honors

The Caldwell Hornets placed two players on the All-District 22-4A first team and three players on the second team for the 2023-24 season.Seniors Nathan Scott and Harrison Novak earned first-team honors, and seniors Travis Cunningham, Grant Mc-Manus and Jamin White were named to the second team.

Lady Jays win Navasota Tourney

The Lady Jays beat the host team in the championship of the 2024 Rattler Round-Robin Classic Softball Tournament last weekend in Navasota to bring home the trophy.Also, Snook ace Aubrey Becker picked up her 500th career strikeout during Snook’s game against Leon at the tournament.

The Lady Yeguas were 2-2 at the Lady Yegua Softball Tournament last week, winning both games on Thursday and losing on Saturday.In their first tournament game, the Lady Yeguas had an easy time with Brazos Christian, winning 14-0.Aubrey Kovasovic was in the circle for Somerville.

Somerville’s JaShawn Jones and Roberto Garcia- Vega topped the SHW class at last week’s Brazos Valley Powerlifting League-Boys Meet 3 in Brenham.Jones won gold with a total lift of 1,270 pounds 510 pounds in the squat, 350 pounds in the bench press and 410 pounds in the dead lift.

Somerville opens 1-2 with win over Hempstead

The Somerville Yeguas opened their season with a 1-2 finish last weekend at the Hempstead Tournament.The Yeguas opened with a 9-1 win over Hempstead on Friday, Feb. 23, before losing to Milano 11-10 on Friday and finished with a 17-3 loss to Faith Academy on Saturday, Feb. 24.

During the Navasota Softball Tournament, Becker hit a milestone as a pitcher -- earning her 500th strikeout in a game against Leon.

Caldwell’s Elijah Rogers earned a silver medal in the 148-pound weight class at last week’s LCQ - Night of Champions boys’ powerlifing meet in Waller.Rogers had a total lift of 835 pounds -- 330 pounds in the squat, 175 pounds in the bench press and 330 pounds in the dead lift.

With all District 22-4A girls basketball teams eliminated from the UIL Girls Class 4A Basketball Playoffs, District 22-4A announced its All-District Team, and five Lady Hornets were selected for the squad.Senior Cadie Coston was named to the Second Team.
