Hornets win finale, get ready for playoffs

The Caldwell Hornets finished the regular season strong with a 72-41 home win over Austin Achieve to finish tied for second in district play.The Hornets were scheduled to face Wheatley in the bi-district playoff on Tuesday, Feb. 20, at Bryan High School for their firstround playoff game.

Lady Jays compete in Thrall Tourney

The Lady Jays started their softball season playing in a tournament in Thrall, going 0-4-1.Snook began the tournament on Thursday, falling to Giddings 2-0.Both teams were strong in the circle, but the Lady Buffs were a little stronger at the plate.

CHS JV softball beats Brenham

The Caldwell junior varsity softball team played their first game of the season last Tuesday, Feb. 13,, beating the Brenham junior varsity squad 18-12.Larisa Foster pitched the entire game, getting two strikeouts in three innings.

Somerville HS girls compete at Brenham powerlifting meet

The Lady Yeguas competed in the Brazos Valley Powerlifting League - Girls Meet 3 in Brenham on Feb. 12, placing third.Also, Savannah Eschete and Cheyanne Lewis each brought home gold medals from the meet.The team finished with 19 points to earn third.

Schrader wins gold at Anderson-Shiro powerlifting meet

Madelynn Schrader earned the gold medal in the 242+ weight class at last Thursday’s Anderson-Shiro Girls Meet 3.Schrader had a total lift of 760 pounds -- 345 pounds in the squat, 135 pounds in the bench press and 280 pounds in the dead lift.

Snook beats Burton 48-36 to make playoffs

The Snook Bluejays secured a fourth place district finish and a bidistrict playoff birth with a 48-36 home win over Burton on Feb. 13.Snook improved to 11-19 overall and 3-7 in District 26-2A and was scheduled to face Evadale in the first round on Tuesday, Feb. 20, in Kingwood.

Caldwell dominates in 80-42 over Smithville

The Caldwell Hornets dominated in an 80-42 home win over Smithville on Friday, improving to 8-3 in district play and securing a playoff bid. Caldwell also celebrated teammate Harrison Novak’s 1,000 point during the game.Caldwell, who also defeated Giddings 49-41 on Feb.

Yeguas defeat Snook 78-36, improve to 8-1

The Somerville Yeguas defeated county rival Snook 78-36 last Friday in Snook to keep their hopes alive for a district co-title.The Yeguas, who also defeated Normangee 60-48 in a crucial game on Tuesday, Feb. 6, improved to 24-6 overall and 8-1 in district play, right behind league leader Mumford.
