Somerville holds on for 58-50 win over Burton

The Somerville Yeguas opened district play last Friday at home with a 58-50 win over Burton. TheYeguas improved to 9-12 overall. The game was tied at 12-12 in the first quarter before the Yeguas moved into a 24-21 lead at halftime.

Last week against Cameron Yoe, Rutherford, the Caldwell goalie, shot down the Yoemen offense by only allowing one goal from six shots on goal. He also had two saves.

Last week at the Tiger Invitational in Rockdale, Pinkerton won gold in the 181-pound weight class, lifting a total of 645 pounds -- 245 in the squat 115 in the bench press and 285 in the dead lift.

THE CALDWELL TENNIS TEAM recently participated in a warm-up match against Bellville. CHS tennis plays warm-up vs. Bellville

The Caldwell tennis team recently played a warm-up match against Bellville. In the warm-up match, the two teams did not keep an overall score as they were trying out different partner combinations. Caldwell will begin its spring season in Bastrop at the Bastrop Winter Cup this Friday, Jan. 20.

Great defense and sharing the scoring duties were key to the Hornet’s 3-1 win over Cameron Yoe last week. The Yoemen had six shots on goal during the game, but only one got past Caldwell goalkeeper Nicholas Rutherford. He also had two saves.

Lady Hornet JV falls to Taylor, Giddings

The Lady Hornet JV basketball team lost two hard fought battles last week in district play. On Tuesday the ladies traveled to Taylor and had a slight lead after the first quarter 8-7 and then were tied at 13-13 going into half.

Snook opens district with victory over Normangee

The Snook Bluejays opened district play last Friday with a 50-40 home win over Normangee. Snook trailed 13-12 after one quarter but rallied to lead 26-24 at halftime. The Bluejays dominated the third quarter with a 10-4 run to build a 36-28 lead and outscored the Panthers 1412 in the final period.

The Lady Jays had a rough district run last week, falling to Burton on Tuesday 59-21 and to Normangee on Friday 49-16. Alexis Macik was the team leader for Snook on the road in Burton. She scored nine points, pulled down 12 rebounds, had two blocked shots and a steal.

Hornet soccer ties Bellville 0-0

In a non-district road game last week, the Hornet soccer team battled Bellville to a 0-0 tie Caldwell’s Jeffrey Tobias took four shots on goal during the game during his 70 minutes of play. David Goff and Francisco Martinez each had two shots on goal, and Mark Laseur had one.
