At the Bastrop Winter Cup last week, Hughson and Chapman placed second in the A Boys Doubles Division, with 24 schools competing, ranging from Class 2A-6A.

Hornets end in 2-2 draw with Florence

Caldwel Hornet soccer’s game against Florence last Tuesday ended in a 2-2 draw. Caldwell was first on the scoreboard and led 1-0 at halftime. The Hornets were able to score another goal in the second half, however, the Buffaloes scored two to end the game in a tie after regulation.

Lady Yeguas fall to Iola, Normangee

The Lady Yeguas lost two district games last week. Last Tuesday, Somerville traveled to Iola, falling to the Lady Bulldogs 57-34. Somerville was led in scoring by Ra’Maya Carter with 24 points. Destiny Vela and Aubrey Kovasovic led the team in rebounding with seven rebounds each.

Yeguas fall to Iola, beat Normangee in overtime

The Somerville Yeguas lost to Iola and defeated Normangee in overtime in district games last week, improving to 2-1 in district play. The Yeguas lost to Iola 56-39 on Tuesday, Jan. 17, in Iola and defeated Normangee 66-59 on Friday, Jan. 20, at home.

Lady Hornets beat Giddings, fall to Taylor

Last week, the Lady Hornet basketball team had two tough district road games -- winning one and losing one. Last Friday, the Lady Hornets traveled to Giddings and corralled the Lady Buffs 40-27. Senior Jae Mathis led the team in scoring with 26 points.

Caldwell powerlifting weighs in at Giddings, Rockdale meets

The Caldwell High School girls’ and boys’ powerlifting teams have begun their season, competing at the Giddings Invitational on Jan. 7 and the Tiger Invitational at Rockdale on Jan. 14. At Giddings, the boys’ team finished sixth in the team standings with nine points.

The Lady Yeguas had a tough time at home last Friday against Burton, falling to the Lady Panthers 62-48. Somerville was led by senior Ra’Maya Carter with 24 points and five rebounds. Destiny Vela also had a strong game, scoring 16 points and pulling down three boards.

Hornets fall to Taylor 55-46, Giddings 50-31 at home

The Caldwell Hornets fell to Taylor 55-46 and Giddings 50-31 in home games last week. The Hornets fell to 10-17 overall and 0-4 in district play. Against Taylor on Tuesday, Jan. 10, Caldwell kept it close throughout the game before falling behind in the final five minutes.
