The Lady Yeguas watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 15-1 loss to Snook last Tuesday. Somerville struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Snook.

Lady Hornet softball beats Rockdale, falls to Academy

In their final game of the season, the Lady Hornets hosted Rockdale, beating the Lady Tigers 9-5. Caldwell took an early 3-0 lead in the first inning. Caitlyn Faust was hit by a pitch in Caldwell’s first at bat, stole second and third, and then scored off an Avery Smith single.

Even though Snook out-hit Mumford 10 to five, the Lady Jays could not cross the plate enough to win, falling to the Lady Mustangs 9-7. Snook had an early 1-0 lead, but then the Lady Mustang bats came alive for seven runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Somerville recently traveled to Normangee, falling to the Lady Panthers 18-3. Normangee took an early 7-1 lead in the first inning, and never looked back -- out-hitting Somerville 11-5 -- including two bombers over the wall by Macie Anderson and Jordan Noack.

Balcar, Cowan win gold at Area Meet

Caldwell’s Travis Balcar and Daniel Cowan won gold in their individual events at the District 19/20 Class 3A Area Track & Field Meet last Thursday in Rockdale. Balcar threw the discus 151 feet to earn first in the boys’ event, and Cowan jumped 6 feet 2 inches in the high jump to place first.

Caldwell’s Hughson places third at Class 3A Region III Tennis Tourney

Caldwell Hornet tennis standout Connor Hughson placed third in boys’ singles last week at the University Interscholastic League (UIL) Class 3A Region III Tennis Tournament. The tournament was held at A&M Consolidated High School.

Hornets win two over Lexington, Florence

The Caldwell Hornets defeated Lexington 4-2 in a Tuesday, April 12, road game and blanked Florence 10-0 last Friday at home. The wins boosted Caldwell to 13-10 overall and 7-3 in district play.

Lady Hornets corral Florence Lady Buffs 15-8

Last Friday, Florence held a 7-5 lead in the second inning before the Lady Hornet bats came alive in the bottom of the third, scoring six runs to take the lead for good and the eventual 15-8 win.
