Snook loses at Iola in doubleheader, 8-1, 14-2

The Snook Bluejays lost a doubleheader to Iola 8-1 and 14-2 last Tuesday, April 12, in Iola. In game one, Snook took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning before Iola responded with four runs in the fourth for a 4-1 lead. Iola added one run in the fifth and three in the sixth for the win.

CHS’ Mathis selected to TGCA All-State Team

Caldwell’s Ja’Asia Mathis was recently named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s (TGCA) Class 3A All-State Basketball Team. The Caldwell junior was also named the Defensive MVP for District 19-3A back in March. Mathis scored over 500 points this season, averaging 17.6 points per game.

Snook, Somerville compete at district

The Snook and Somerville boys varsity track teams finished second and third at last week’s District 26-2A Track Meet in Snook. The Bluejays scored 138 points for a silver finish in the team standings while the Yeguas had 115 points for the bronze. Burton won the gold with 169 points.

Two CHS fishing teams qualify for state tourney

In Caldwell FFA Bass Club’s second year, all six of their fishing teams advanced to the regional fishing tournament, with two teams advancing to the state tournament. The Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) Houston/Hill/ Bayou regional tournament was held on Lake Travis on Saturday, April 9.

Hornets fall to Cameron 2-1 in tough, defensive game

The Caldwell Hornets fell to Cameron 2-1 on Friday, April 8, at home, snapping a fourgame district winning streak. The loss dropped Caldwell to 10-11 overall and 5-3 in district play.

Hornets fall to #8 Latexo in non-district matchup

In a non-district game last Tuesday, Caldwell hosted the Class 2A Number 8 team Latexo, falling to the Lady Tigers 11-2. Latexo took an early 2-1 lead in the first inning and doubled its score in the second for a 4-1 lead.

Caldwell HS track runs at District 19-3A meet

The Caldwell varsity boys’ track team finished third in the team standings at last week’s District 19-3A Track Meet at Cameron Yoe High School. Caldwell scored 117 points for its third place finish. Host school Cameron Yoe won the team title with 154 points, and Rockdale was second with 132.
