Caldwell High School held its annual fall sports athletic banquet on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Burleson County Expo Center, with Hornet Award and Most Valuable Player honors presented in each sport. The honors are presented by the Caldwell Athletic Booster Club.

Caldwell’s Phillip Jungman shot a perfect 25 in Round 10 to solidify his position on the 2022 USA National Team by earning him the silver medal in Men’s Skeet at last week’s 2022 Shotgun Selection Match in Tucson, Arizona.

Lady Hornets win two in district over Cameron, Rockdale

The Lady Hornets are off to the best start of the season they have had in many recent years. Currently, Caldwell is 16-6 overall and 4-2 in district, which has the team in third in District 19-3A -- behind Rogers and Little-River Academy, both sitting at 5-1 in the district.

Snook controls 2nd half in win over Yeguas

The Snook Bluejays took control in the second half with a 41-point offensive surge to overtake rival Somerville 70-51 in their district opener last Friday in Snook. The victory was Snook’s second in a row after a 73-62 road win over Granger on Tuesday, Jan.

Snook Lady Jays fall to Iola 44-28

The Lady Jays lost to Iola on the road last Tuesday 44-28. Iola took an early 12-8 lead by the end of the first quarter, and kept up the momentum for the win. Labrayla Pool was the top scorer for Snook with 10 points.

SHS Lady Yeguas fall to Normangee

The Lady Yeguas suffered a road loss in Normangee last Tuesday 48-22. Somerville was without many of its starters due to injury. Camia Martin was the team’s leading scorer with seven points.

Smith receives Masters from Harding

Tori Smith of Caldwell earned a Master of Science in physician assistant studies from Harding University, receiving a diploma during a commencement ceremony on Dec. 18. Smith was one of over 300 students who received diplomas during the event.

Favella named to SNHU Fall President’s List

Rachel Favella of Somerville has been named to Southern New Hampshire University’s Fall 2021 President’s List. Full-time undergraduate students who have earned a minimum grade-point average of 3.7 and above are named to the President’s List.

Hornets dominate in district home win over Rockdale

Caldwell Hornets took control in the second quarter against Rockdale last Friday at home and cruised to a 57-30 victory. The Hornets bounced back after a 70-45 road loss to Cameron on Tuesay, Jan. 11. Caldwell’s victory over Rockdale improved their record to 12-13 overall and 2-2 in district play.
