Hornets fall 21-20 at Troy despite good running game

Caldwell dominated with its running game, including 236 yards by Jamar Hewitt, but the Troy Trojans rallied in the final quarter for a 21-20 win over the Hornets last Friday in Troy. The Hornets, losing their sixth straight, fell to 2-6 overall and 0-4 in district play.

Lady Yeguas beat Dime Box in 3 sets

The Lady Yeguas hosted Dime Box last Tuesday, Oct. 19, easily beating the Lady Longhorns in straight sets 25-10, 25-16, 25-13. Emma Kovasovic led the Somerville offense with 10 kills, eight assists and four aces.

Yeguas seek win over Bartlett

The Somerville Yeguas will try to keep their playoff hopes alive this Friday in a road game at Bartlett. The Yeguas, 3-5 overall and 2-2 in district play, will likely secure a playoff spot by winning. Bartlett enters the game 2-7 overall and 0-5 in district play.

Lady Jays fall to Richards in 3 sets

The Lady Jays visited Richards last Tuesday, Oct. 19, falling to the Lady Panthers in straight sets 14-25, 15- 25, 22-25. Leading Snook at the net was Alexis Macik with four kills and three blocks. She also had two aces and a dig. Bre’Asia Louis led the team in kills with six.

Snook JH blue earns 4th in district tourney

Snook Junior High School had two “B” teams compete at the Junior High District Volleyball Tournament in Fayetteville, and the blue team finished in fourth place. The blue team beat Fayetteville 25-11, 25-23, before losing to Round Top-Carmine in three sets 26-24, 19-25, 7-15.

The 2021 Caldwell Lady Hornet Volleyball season has ended. With a season record of 20-21 and a district record of 4-8, for the first time in 16 years, the Lady Hornets will not be a part of the playoff postseason.

Somerville senior receiver Verkobe Woodberry was recently named one of five winners of the prestigious 2021 Unsung Heroes Award by Texas Football magazine. Texas Football has partnered with Texas Farm Bureau Insurance to present the award.

Lady Hornets place second at District 19-3A XC Meet

The Lady Hornet cross country team advanced to the Region III Class 3A meet after placing second at the District 19- 3A meet The regional meet will be held Monday, Oct. 25, at Kate Barr Ross Memorial Park in Huntsville.

Snook, Somerville XC runners advance to regionals, Oct. 25

Three Somerville runners and two Snook runners advanced to the Class 2A Region IV Cross Country Meet. Regionals will be held this Monday, Oct. 25, at the Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi campus.
