The Lady Yeguas were on the road for both of their games last week, and went 1-1 in district play. Last Tuesday in Richards, Somerville beat the Lady Panthers in four sets 25-17, 25-15, 15-25, 25-21. Senior Emma Kovasovic had a great offensive night, tallying six kills, nine aces and 16 assists.

The Lady Jays split their district matches last week, going 1-1 against McDade and Round Top-Carmine. Last Friday, Snook hosted McDade, winning in straight sets 25-13, 25-19, 25-18. At the net offensively, Snook was led by Bre’Asia Louis with seven kills. She also had an ace and a dig.

Two turnovers, 27 percent of conversions on third down 91 total yards... Caldwell had a rough outing last Friday night at home against the Little River-Academy, falling to the Bumblebees 49-0.

Hughes qualifies for National Finals Rodeo

Caldwell’s Westyn Hughes has qualified for the PRCA National Finals Rodeo (NFR) for the second time in his pro rodeo careers. The NFR will be held Dec. 2-11 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

CHS tennis falls in bi-district

The Caldwell Hornet tennis team has had a tough two years against Lago Vista High School in the bi-district round. Last fall, Lago Vista knocked Caldwell out of the UIL Class 4A Team Tennis Playoffs by edging out the Hornets 10-9. And, this year, the Hornet tennis team lost to Lago Vista 8-11.

Rockdale rallies for 34-30 win over CHS

Rockdale rallied with three unanswered TD drives, the final after a fumble recovery with just over four minutes to go, to defeat Caldwell 34-30 last Friday in Rockdale. It was a tough one for Caldwell, who led 30-14 in the third quarter and out gained the Tigers offensively, 324 yards to 232.

The Somerville Yeguas kept it close in the early going, but Burton’s explosive offense took over, particularly after a strong showing from senior quarterback Ryan Roehling, to win 34-6 last Friday in Burton.

The Snook Bluejays used their bye week last week to fine tune their game in preparation for this Friday’s showdown with rival Somerville in Somerville. The Bluejays, 1-5 overall and 0-2 in district, are coming of a 34-8 home loss to district leader Burton on Oct. 1.
