The Lady Jays were on the road last week to start Round 2 of district play. The ladies’ first stop was last Tuesday in Burton, falling to the Lady Panthers 22-25, 10-25, 4-25. Snook’s leader at the net was Payton Sodolak with four kills and a block.

The Lady Yeguas were 1-1 to start Round 2 of district play last week. On Friday, the team was on the road in McDade, beating the Lady Bulldogs in straight sets 25-15, 25-23, 25-13. Somerville was led offensively by Ra’Maya Carter, Camia Martin and Emma Kovasovic with each having eight kills.

Lady Hornets beat Florence to start Round 2 of district

The Lady Hornets began second round of district play last week on the road, beating Florence and losing to Rockdale. In Florence, Caldwell had an easy time with the Lady Buffs, beating Florence in straight sets 25-19, 25-15, 25-16. The Lady Hornet charge was led by Ashlyn Kellum with 13 kills.

The Lady Hornet junior varsity volleyball team went 2-0 last week to start Round 2 of district play. Last Tuesday, Caldwell beat Florence on the road in straight sets 25-13, 25-16.

The Somerville made big plays when they had to last Friday at home against Iola, getting a defensive stop on a twopoint play that won the game in overtime 14-13. The stop set off an euphoric celebration for the Yeguas, who finally won a close one and did it staring down some major pressure.

Last week, the Lady Yeguas won Round 1 of the Burleson County Volleyball Showdown, beating rival Snook at home in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-12. Somerville senior Emma Kovasovic led the Lady Yegua offense with nine kills, nine assists and two aces.

The Caldwell girls varsity cross country team finished third at the Lexington Cross Country Small School Showdown with a score of 83 -- three points behind second place Giddings at 80. Thrall won the girls’ team title with a score of 53.
