Hornet XC places 4th at Brazos Invitational

The Caldwell Hornet cross country team placed fourth at the 15th Annual Brazos High School XC Invitational. The Hornets scored a total of 123 points. East Bernard won the team title with a total of 43 points, edging out Boling with 45 points. Bellville was third with 88 points.

Snook rallies but falls at home to Thrall 49-27

The Snook Bluejays, battling injuries from last week’s Thorndale game, struggled last Friday in a 49-27 home loss to Thrall. Snook, now 1-2, lost despite out gaining the Tigers 423 to 316 in total yards.

Snook Lady Jays drop district opener to Burton

The Lady Jays had an open date last Tuesday to prepare for Friday’s district opener with Burton at home. However, the Lady Panthers were too much for Snook, with the Lady Jays falling in straight sets 4-25, 11-25, 6-25. Great backline play for Snook came from Frida Mota with 31 digs.

The Snook cross country team ran at the Brenham Hillacious Inviational 2021 last week -- a course known at “the toughest course in Texas.” Snook head cross country coach Meagan Mitchell said the course has that reputation “for a resaon.

The Lady Yeguas fell to perennial volleyball powerhouse Round Top-Carmine in their district opener last Friday at home. Somerville fell to the Cubettes in straight sets 16-25, 17-25, 19-25. Ra’Maya Carter led the Lady Yeguas offensively at the net with nine kills.

Somerville XC runs at McGregor

The Somerville cross country team ran at the McGregor 10th Annual XC Invitational 2021 at Bluebonnet Park in McGregor last Saturday, Sept. 11. Twenty-three schools participated in the varsity events. Destiny Vela finished 41st in the girls varsity 2-mile run for Classes 1A-4A schools.

Caldwell’s head volleyball coach Jane Anne Giese reached yet another milestone in her 18-year coaching career on Saturday, Aug. 28 -- her 450th career win -- with a tournament victory over Richards.

Lady Hornet XC places second, third at Burton

In a team combined meet at the Burton Relays on Aug. 28, the Lady Hornets placed both second and third with two Hornet boys cross country teams placing fifth and seventh. The team of Morgan Becka, Daisha Denson, Rian Ferguson and Tess Homeyer was second with a combined time of 27:48.

Hornet tennis defeats Bastrop, Navasota

The Hornet Tennis team got their first win of the season against Class 5A Bastrop on Tuesday, Aug. 24, with a 10-9 victory. The mixed doubles team of Madeline Horan and Christian Kouatli and the boys doubles and boys singles provided the one match margin of victory.

Hornets win big again, 38-6 over Hempstead

The Caldwell Hornets dominated for the second consecutive week in a 38-6 homecoming win over Hempstead last Friday. The Hornets’ offense had 380 total yards, with 306 of that on the ground, while the defense again shined, yielding just 71 total yards -- 29 passing and 42 rushing.
