Snook Bluejays hope to build on last year’s momentum

The Snook Bluejays got everyone’s attention last year with a district championship and three rounds in the post-season playoffs. The Bluejays finished 7-5 overall and 5-1 in district play, thanks to a late season surge.

In the county’s first volleyball game of the season, the Lady Jays fell to Brazos Christian in straight sets 25-5, 25-5, 25-6. The Snook backline was led by senior Paola Arredondo with 15 digs. The junior varsity team also fell to Brazos Christian 25-10, 25-5.

Caldwell’s Jungman shares his Olympic experience

Phillip Jungman, who just recently competed in the Men’s Skeet Shooting event at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, has plans to qualify for the 2024 Paris Games. Jungman, a Caldwell, native who is a member of the U.S. Army’s Marksmanship Unit, placed 15th out of 40 with a score of 120.

Hieden places 2nd at horseshoe world championships

Caldwell’s Doris Hieden finished second at the 2021 NHPA World Horseshoe Pitching Championships in the Open Women’s Division last week. The National Horseshoe Pitchers Association (NHPA) tournament was held in Winnemucca, Nevada, July 19-31, with the championship bracket played July 29-31.

Caldwell football season ticket holders may renew their tickets for the 2021 season from Monday, Aug. 2, to Friday, Aug. 20, at the Caldwell Administration office. Any tickets not renewed by Aug. 20 will be offered to the general public on Tuesday, Aug. 24. Tickets are $10 a seat.

In his first ever Olympic Games, Class of 2013 Caldwell High School graduate Phillip Jungman finished 15th in the Men’s Skeet shooting qualifying rounds at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. Jungman made his Olympic skeet debut shooting at the Asaka Shooting Range this past weekend.
