CHS’s Drgac earns degree from Temple College

Daeghan Drgac of Caldwell earned an associates degree in arts on Saturday, May 15, 2021, from Temple College during the spring 2021 commencement. Drgac, a 2019 Caldwell High School graduate, plans to attend Texas A&M University in College Station where she will study Ag Business.

The Caldwell Athletic Booster Club announced its Most Valuable Player and Hornet Award winners for spring sports on Tuesday, May 11, at the athletic banquet at the Burleson County Expo Center.

Lady Yegua volleyball coaching staff to hold summer camps

The Somerville volleyball coaching staff will be holding camps for current and future Lady Yeguas. For the incoming second through sixth-graders, there will be “Little Lady Yeguas Days” on June 7, 21 and 28 from 1-3 p.m. The event will teach volleyball skills using fun games. The cost is free.

Hamilton leaps for 4th place in state high jump championship

Snook senior Deshum Hamilton finished his track and field career by placing fourth in the boys Class 2A high jump at the UIL State Track and Field Meet last Friday morning. The East Texas Baptist University football signee cleared a height of 6 feet 4 inches to earn fourth.

Somerville falls to Evadale in 2 games

The Somerville Yeguas fell to Evadale from District 25-2A 15-0 in game one and 15-2 in game two of their bidistrict playoff games on Friday, May 7, in New Caney. The Yeguas finished 5-11 overall and 4-9 in district play.

Hornets win bi-district playoff

The Caldwell Hornets shut out Groesbeck 10-0 in game one of the bi-district series last Friday in Mumford and won game two 5-4, advancing to the area playoff. Caldwell (16-12-1) is scheduled to face No. 1 ranked Troy (30-1) in the area playoff at 5 p.m. on Thursday, May 13, in Mumford and at 6 p.m.

CHS V-ball fish camp set for July 26-28

Registration has begun for the annual Lady Hornet Volleyball Fish Camp. The three-day camp will be on Monday-Wednesday, July 26- 28, from 1-3 p.m. in the new high school gym. All incoming ninth grade girl athletes may participate in the summer camp. There is no cost for the camp.

Caldwell Junior High boys’ tennis won the seventh and eighthgrade team titles for the most points earned at the district tournament last Saturday. About 30 athletes com peted in the tournament at Georgetown High School.

It is a most unusual legacy of excellence. Snook High School has won 18 state championships in several sports, and the school district now has a large sign listing those accomplishments and the years displayed prominently on the front of the high school.
