5th-8th grade V-ball camp set for July 26-28

Registration for the annual Lady Hornet Volleyball Camp is open. The three-day camp will be on Monday-Wednesday, July 26-28, from 9-11 a.m. in the new high school gym. All incoming fifth through eighth-grade athletes may participate in the summer camp.

Mud Volleyball Tourney planned

Hospice Brazos Valley’s Annual Mud Volleyball Tournament will be held on Saturday, Aug. 28, 2021, behind Slovacek’s in Snook. Attendance for spectators is free. Take your own lawn chair. Food trucks, a kid mud pit, music and cold beverages will be available.

Lady Yegua relay team leaves its mark in Somerville history

Lady Yegua runners Ra’Maya Carter, Xadria Martin, Camia Martin, and Emma Kovasovic will make history this Friday when they run in Austin at the UIL State Track Meet. It will be the first time that Somerville girls have been represented at the state meet in relay events.

Somerville beats Snook, earns spot in playoffs

The Somerville Yeguas concluded their regular season last week with a 15-8 win over rival Snook and a 15-6 loss to Iola, both at home, but the Yeguas have earned a playoff spot. Somerville finished the season at 5-9 overall and 4-9 in district play, good enough for fourth place in District 26-2A.

Snook softball falls to Centerville in playoffs

The Lady Jays fell behind early and couldn’t contain Centerville’s high-powered offense last Friday in Mumford, losing 14-3, which ended the 2021 season for Snook. The bi-district matchup was originally scheduled for last Thursday at Bryan High, but was postponed due to rain.

The Lady Yeguas watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in an 11-1 loss to Latexo last Friday. Somerville struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Latexo, giving up 11 runs in five innings.
