Lady Hornets fall to #2 Burton, Lexington

The Lady Hornets had a rough week on the road, falling to Class 2A Number 2 Burton and Lexington.Against Burton, Caldwell fell in straight sets 18-25, 13-25, 19-25.Reese McManus led the offense for Caldwell with 11 kills.Lydia Giese also had a strong night offensively with 23 assists.

The Lady Hornets JV volleyball team went 1-3 last week, falling in road matches to Burton last Tuesday to Lexington last Friday and going 1-1 at the Mumford Tournament.On Tuesday in Burton, the Lady Hornets just couldn’t get their offense going in Set 1 as Burton came away with the win 25-18.

Last weekend the Caldwell freshman volleyball team brought energy and determination to the court at the Mumford JV Volleyball Tournament.Facing tough competition, the team held their own with strong serves, communication and noticeable improvement throughout the day.

Hornets start strong, fall to Robinson 55-14

Caldwell battled Robinson tough in the first half, battling to a 14-14 tie early in the second quarter, but letdowns in the kicking game proved costly as the Rockets cruised to a 55-14 win last Friday in Robinson.

Somerville struggles in 48-0 loss to Weimar

It was a long night for the Somerville Yeguas as speedy Weimar rushed for 428 yards, built a 34-0 halftime lead and won 48-0 last Friday in Somerville.It was a complete letdown for Somerville, who opened their season with promise the week before with a 3418 road win over Normangee.

Area cross country runs in the Brenham Hillacious

The Hornet cross country team finished sixth in the boys 2-mile varsity 1A-4A division at Saturday’s Brenham Hillacious cross country meet.The Hornets finished on the team scoreboard with a score of 133 points.Aggieland Home-School won the team title with a score of 15.

The Snook Bluejays fell to St. Stephen’s Episcopal School 68-2 at home last Friday.The Bluejays, now 0-2, surrendered 594 total yards, 226 on the ground and 368 passing yards, and 10 TDs.Snook trailed 21-0 in the first quarter and 48-2 at halftime. St.

Lady Yeguas cage Milano Lady Eagles

Last Friday night, the Lady Yeguas hosted Milano, and after losing Set 1 came back to defeat the Lady Eagles in four sets 18-25, 2514, 25-23, 25-22.Karys Ellis led Somerville with 14 kills, four blocks and five digs.Anette Reyna had 13 kills, three aces, nine assists and 10 digs.

REAL BAD START Arch Manning and the #1 Texas Longhorns got a rude awakening against the #3 Ohio State Buckeyes in the season opener.It was a ho-hum yawner of a matchup that even those who didn’t need a nap probably dozed off, with the Buckeyes winning 14-7 in what is best described as a bad dream.
