CHS track competes at regional meet

The Caldwell High School track team sent several athletes to the UIL Class 4A Region 3 Track & Field Meet last week at Bullard High School.The results included: Boys* 800-meter run: Spencer Ellis, 2:04.82, 11th.Victor Aviles of Burnet won this event with a time of 1:53.44.

Somerville’s Jeremy Vela not only won the UIL Class 2A Region 4 boys high jump title which qualified him for the UIL State Track & Field Meet, he broke the school and Class 2A Region 4 track meet records.The regional track meet was held at Texas A&MKingsville last weekend.

Snook’s Withem earns spot at state golf tourney

Snook High School senior Brett Withem placed fifth last week at the regional tournament and advanced to the state meet on May 5-6 at Lions Club in Austin.The regional tournament was held on April 14-15 in Corpus Christi, and Snook placed 15th.

Lady Jay pitching phenom Aubrey Becker closed out her high school career getting 13 strikeouts in a 5-1 loss to Burton last week.The loss ended the Snook softball season, however the 13 strikeouts got Becker over a huge pitching milestone: her 900th strikeout.

Caldwell girls place seventh at regional golf tourney

The Caldwell Lady Hornets golf team placed seventh at the Region 3 Tournament on April 14-15 at Bearkat Course in Huntsville.Their two-day score was 423 on April 14, putting them in eighth place ahead of Bridge City and behind Lorena, and 397 on April 15.

ATHLETES of the WEEKLast week at the Bryan Varsity Invitational, Chapman won the boys singles title by beating the Number 1 boys tennis player at College Station High School, Ysmael Tineo, in the finals 3-6, 7-5, 10-8.
Last week at the area track meet, Kienow won three individual gold medals by running 28.07 seconds in the 200-meter dash and by jumping 5 feet 2 inches in the high jump and leaping 33 feet 7.5 inches in the triple jump.

Snook softball beats North Zulch, edged out by Iola

The Lady Jays found their bats last Tuesday, blanking North Zulch in five innings 16-0.Snook was led by Aubrey Becker at the plate, driving in four runs on five hits -- doubling in the first inning to score two, doubling in the fourth inning to score one and singling in the fifth to score one.

Somerville falls to Burton in 2 games, 15-0, 10-0

The Somerville Yeguas fell to Burton last week in a two-game series, falling 15-0 on Tuesday, April 8, in Burton and 10-0 on Friday, April 11, at home.In game one, Burton scored 9 first-inning runs, and added 3 each in the bottom of the second and the bottom of the third innings.
