RIVALRY RENEWED -- It had been 13 years since the Texas Longhorns and Texas A&M Aggies squared off in a rivalry won by UT 2725 way back in 2011, and the excitement was definitely brewing all month and all week long.

Lady Hornets host annual basketball tournament

Last week, the Lady Hornets hosted their third annual Lady Hornet Classic Basketball Tournament, in which both Caldwell and Somerville played.Other teams in the tournament included: Hearne, Lexington, Rockdale and Burton’s varsity and junior varsity.

Snook wins 78-19 over Allen Academy

The Snook Bluejays improved to 2-0 last Friday with a 78-19 home win over Allen Academy.Snook excelled on defense with a 21-0 run in the first quarter and 3514 at halftime The Bluejays shut out Allen Academy in the third and held them to just five fourth quarter points.

Caldwell’s Giese named ‘Newcomer of the Year’

With the Bellville Brahmanettes finally completing their volleyball season by falling in the state finals to Decatur, officials with District 22-4A were able to release their All-District selections -- with freshman Lydia Giese being named the district’s “Newcomer of the Year.

Lady Yeguas beat Dime Box

Last Tuesday night, Nov. 19, the Lady Yeguas traveled to Dime Box, beating the Lady Horns 56-37.Vivianna Munoz led the team with 23 points. Keira had 10 points.

Lady Jays fall to Thorndale 43-35

In a hard fought home game last Tuesday, the Lady Jays fell to Thorndale 43-35. Both teams were tied 7-7 with two minutes to go in the first quarter when Braynija Pool made a free throw to give Snook an 8-7 lead at the end of the frame.
Against Thorndale last week, Lara was the Lady Jays’ leading scorer with 19 points, including a three-pointer.

Hornets fall to 1-2 with Academy, Mumford losses

The Caldwell Hornets fell to Little River-Academy 59-55 last Friday in Academy and lost to Mumford 69-41 on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at home.The Hornets fell to 1-2 for the season.Against Academy, Caldwell started slow, trailing 14-6 in the first quarter, and trailing 30-20 at halftime.
