Somerville plans to hire police chief this week

Somerville is expected to hire its new police chief this week.A finalist was scheduled to be announced this week, perhaps as early as Wednesday, after the city council completed its final interview in closed session on Tuesday and then voted in open session, said City Administrator David Resendiz.

Brenham woman dies in SH 36 South wreck

A Brenham woman died and five persons were injured on Monday night in a two-car head-on collision on State Highway 36 South about 1.4 miles north of Lyons.Asia Debrow, 28, was pronounced dead at the scene by Burleson County Pct. 4 Justice of the Peace Jason Urbanosky.

The Somerville Historical Society & Museum is hosting its annual “A Historical Christmas” on Thursday, Dec. 5, from 6-9 p.m. at St. Ann’s Recreation Center.Reserved tables are $350 each (with eight seats per table), and individual tickets are $25 each.

Somerville begins CodeRED system

The City of Somerville has established CodeRED emergency notification system for local residents on the mobile devices.Residents were recently notified with a mail flyer explaining the system, which allows residents to be notified when emergencies occur.

Former Jailer charged with sexual activity with inmate

A former Burleson County jailer has been charged with improper sexual activity with a person in custody.Marshall O’Donnell turned himself in to the Brazos County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday, Dec. 3, and remained in custody there on $6,000 bond, said Burleson County Chief Deputy Bill Rios.

Santaville festivities set for Saturday

Somerville’s annual Santaville event will be held on Dec. 7 from 1:30-5 p.m. in downtown Somerville.Allyson Hargrove, the event organizer, said she is excited to see the community at this year’s event.“Anyone and everyone is welcome to enjoy the festivities,” she said.
