Bettye “Carolyn” Tolar, 86, was born on Aug. 10, 1939, to “Doctor” John E. Siptak MD and Elisabeth (“Bettye”) Ann Kocurek.
She grew up in Caldwell, helping care for her three younger brothers, learning to cook and sew, and helping in her father’s doctor’s office.
She loved to read and would read the encyclopedias for fun.
She graduated as Valedictorian of Caldwell High School before attending The University of Texas at Austin.
She was an active member of Central Christian Church, serving faithfully and leadership as Deacon and Elder Emeritus and singing in the choir. Also, a leader in Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).
She worked as a teacher, realtor, librarian, and mentor.
She spoke French and had a lifelong love of music, playing the piano, accordion, and flute.
Her creativity also shone through her intricate beading and jewelry-making.
Carolyn found joy in traveling, reading, gardening and playing bridge, and in her later years delighted in card and board games.
She was deeply involved in her community and volunteered her time and energy to numerous organizations.
She died on Nov. 2, 2025. Carolyn is survived by four children and their spouses; 12 grandchildren; and 6 great-grandchildren.
