Somerville scores one TD in Leon scrimmage

The Somerville Yeguas varsity scored one TD and Leon scored twice in a Friday first scrimmage at Yegua Stadium.Senior quarterback Andy Espinoza threw a 20-yard TD pass to receiver Jayden Young for Somerville’s score.Somerville Head Coach Luke Klingler said the first scrimmage showed a lot.

After opening the season with a perfect 6-0 record, the Lady Yeguas find themselves sitting at Number 14 in the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association poll.Somerville also have earned one tournament title -- the Lady Rattler Volleyball Tournament last week.

The Snook Bluejays played a tri-scrimmage last Thursday against Cypress Christian and Hallettsville Sacred Heart in Hallettsville in their first appearance under new Head Coach Matthew Kana.

The Lady Jays had a rough start to the 2026 season, playing in the Leon Volleyball Tournament and going 0-8.The Snook season began with a loss to Elkhart 11-25, 8-25 on Thursday morning.Snook then had losses to Leon (15-25, 13-25) and Franklin (7-25, 13-25) to end Thursday.

The Caldwell Hornets scored one TD in a live quarter and one TD in the regular scrimmage against Anderson-Shiro last Friday in Caldwell and held the Owls scoreless.It was Caldwell Head Coach Sean Witherwax’s first look at his 2026 team.

The Lady Hornets began the 2026 season going 3-6 last week, including losses to two 2025 state champions Class 1A/2A Number 3 Leon and Class 1A/2A Number 2 Crawford.And, Caldwell began the season as it has for many years: taking on Leon in the season opener.
