Somerville drops to third in Falls City loss

The Somerville Yeguas fell to Falls City 45-22 last Friday in Falls City, dropping to 4-2 in district play for third place. But the Yeguas had already earned a playoff berth, and will face Granger this Friday at Rockdale in the bidistrict playoff.

Snook finishes strong, defeats Louise 33-14

The Snook Bluejays, playing for pride after being knocked out of the playoffs, finished strong in a 33-14 road win over Louise last Friday. The Bluejays finished 4-6 overall and 2-4 in District 14-2A tied for fourth.

CALDWELL’S DORIS Hieden won the Women’s Class A division for the eighth time at the Texas State Horseshoe Pitchers State Singles Championships held in Waco, over Oct. 7-9. Hieden placed first with a pitching percentage of 80.09% and a high game percentage of 87.5%.

Pinkerton named CHS winner in Heisman Scholarship Contest

Last week, Lady Hornet Jacklyn “Jackie” Pinkerton was named the Caldwell High School winner in the Heisman High School Scholarship Competition. From an applicant pool of thousands of high school scholar-athletes graduating with the class of 2023, more than 5,700 have been named school winners.

Fourteen Hornets earn District 20-4A All-District Team Tennis Team honors

The Hornet tennis team landed 14 players on the District 20-4A Tennis Team All-District Team, including nine earning first team honors. In boys’ singles, seniors, Waylon Chapman and Connor Hughson, earned first team honors. Dylan Chapman, sophomore, was named to the second team in boys’ singles.

The Lady Jays and Lady Yeguas ended the district season tied for fourth place, so Friday the teams faced off in Caldwell for a winnergets- into-the-playoffs match — with Somerville coming out on top 25-11, 25-22, 25-14.

Burton clinches title in 71-20 win over Somerville

Burton took control quickly and showed why they are the undefeated district champion in a 71-20 road win over Somerville last Friday. The 9-0 P a n t h e r s built a 35-7 halftime lead and added a 22-point third quarter before finishing with 482 total yards, 470 on the ground.
