Lady Jays upset Class 1A’s #10 Moulton in season opener

The Lady Jays apparently wanted to start off the basketball season by making a statement -- and that statement was “we’re not scared of pre-season Top 10 teams” -- edging the Number 10 team in Class 1A Moulton at home 31-30.

Knesek, Isom receive SYS’s Payton Francis Award

On Monday the Somerville Youth Sports (SYS) held its annual Fall Sports Award Ceremony and presented the Payton Francis Award to Hunter Knesek and Janaya Isom. The award is in honor of Payton “Pup” Francis who lost his life as one of the four victims in a tragic car accident on May 9, 2020.

Stringfellow, Carter top District 25-2A All-District selections

The All-District selections for District 25-2A volleyball were recently released, and eight Burleson County players were named to the All-District Team. Snook libero Alana Stringfellow took top honors as the District Co-MVP with Allison Scarmardo of Mumford.

Lady Hornets fall to Gatesville in area round

Caldwell’s run in the playoffs ended last Friday night at Little River Academy at the hands of Gatesville. In a Lady Hornets vs. Lady Hornets match (yes, Gatesville’s volleyball team is also the Lady Hornets), Gatesville took the match in three sets 25-16, 25-18, 25-23.

Lady Hornets land six on All-District squad

With all four of the District 22-4A volleyball teams being eliminated in the area playoff round last week, the All-District Team selections were released, with six Caldwell players earning All-District honors.

Hornets battle back, fall to Smithville 21-14

Smithville intercepted a pass in the end zone in the final seconds to thwart a final Caldwell drive as the Tigers won 21-14 last Friday in Caldwell’s finale at home.

Janac competes at UIL State Cross Country Meet

Bluejay cross country runner Ethan Janac competed in his first UIL State Cross Country Meet last Friday, finishing 101 out of 147 runners in the Class 2A boys’ 5k race. Janac crossed the finish line at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock with a time of 19:58.

Delvin Morris Hornet Football

Against Smithville on Friday, Morris rushed 13 times for 121 yards, including one rush for 24 yards. He also scored a touchdown and a two-point conversion in Caldwell’s loss.
