The Caldwell varsity girls cross country team won the team title at the Caldwell Invitational XC Meet last Saturday at Davidson Creek Park. The girls won with a total score of 22. Lexington was second with 36.

Hornets struggle in second half in 28-14 Giddings loss

The Caldwell Hornets had some big plays in the first half -- a blocked punt for the TD and a long scoring pass from quarterback Ryan Shupak to Jace Aly -- but Giddings controlled the second half and won 28-14 last Friday in Caldwell.

Hearne’s big defensive line was too much for Snook’s offense last Friday, with the Bluejays held to just four rushing yards and 79 total yards in a 33-0 loss. Snook, 1-3, played respectably on defense, but the defense was on the field too much, as the Eagles steadily wore down the Bluejays.

The Lady Jays had a rough week last week, losing two district matches at home. On Tuesday, Sept. 14, Snook hosted Fayetteville, losing in straight sets 25-12, 25-12, 25-19. Alexis Macik led the Snook charge at the net with six kills and seven blocks. She also had a dig.

Lady Yeguas beat Richards in four sets

Last Friday, the Lady Yeguas hosted Richards, winning at home in four sets 25-17, 25- 13, 28-30, 25-11. The Lady Yeguas were led by Emma Kovasovic with 14 kills, two aces, a block and 12 assists. Camia Martin also had a good match with 14 kills, an ace, two blocks and five digs.

Hornet tennis clinches 2nd in District 20-4A

With Hope Savage’s upset girls’ singles victory over the Number 1 ranked Smithville player, the Caldwell tennis team clinches second place in District 20-4A. Caldwell beat Smithville 10-9 in La Grange last Saturday.
