As we enter the severe weather season, Texans can purchase certain items tax free during the state’s sales tax holiday for emergency preparation supplies, which begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 29.

Somerville residents were saddened on Monday morning with the death of 17-year-old high school student Nicole Paige McNeil in a truck-car accident on State Highway 36 south of Caldwell. Her mother Aleasha Bosquez, 41, of Caldwell, and three of her siblings -- 7-year-old brother Issac Bosquez, 9-year-old sister Toni Bosquez and 5-yearold brother Jason Bosquez -- were also injured and transported to area hospitals, according to Somerville School Superintendent Eric Holton.

Attorneys for Burleson St. Joseph Manor nursing home in Caldwell have filed an initial response to a lawsuit against them alleging medical negligence in the 2022 death of Mildred J. Page. The nursing home is denying the family’s allegations and demanding a jury trial.
