Caldwell purchases Chmelar property for $700k

The Caldwell City Council, on Tuesday, June 30, approved a resolution authorizing Mayor John Rychlik to enter into a purchase and sales agreement for a 10.33 acre property on State Highway 36, previously owned by Chmelar & Thompson Investments, for $700,000.

Two die in separate July 2 accidents

In a tragic day spanning just eight hours, Burleson County experienced two traffic fatalities on Thursday, July 2, in separate, unrelated accidents, one a two-car crash on F.M. 60 near F.M. 50 and the other involving an ATV rollover at Birch Creek Forest Subdivision.

SISD solicits bids for Phase 2 of construction

Somerville ISD offcially began construction on Phase 2 of its bond construction with the school board authorizing its construction manager to solicit bids.The authorization came during the board's June 17 regular meeting.

Somerville to revisit Welch Park lease request

The Somerville City Council was scheduled at a Tuesday, June 30, called meeting to again consider a request from Welch Park Enterprises Inc., to renew its sublease from the city.The request to extend the sublease term is contingent upon renewal of the city's lease with the U.S.

Deputies investigate 3 oil well site thefts

Burleson County sheriff ’s deputies are investigating three cases of major damage and theft of wiring at oil well sites last week on County Roads 324, 328 and 315.Burleson County Sheriff Bill Rios said the cases are being investigated as felony thefts and as criminal mischief.

Theft of calves investigated

Burleson County sheriff ’s deputies are investigating the theft of multiple calves reported missing last Friday, June 26, off F.M. 1361.Burleson County Sheriff Bill Rios said the owner reported 1014 calves with red ear tags missing at 10:27 a.m. on Friday.

Money stolen from woman’s account in scam

A Burleson County woman was recently scammed out of $7,681.93 by a man claiming to be from her bank.Burleson County Sheriff Bill Rios said the woman, who lives on County Road 364, got a call on June 12 from a man claiming to be from her bank, who already had all of her private bank information.

Man charged in livestock theft

A Caldwell area man was arrested on Wednesday, June 24, on a felony theft of livestock charge in connection with possession of a nearby property owner’s cow.Henry Joe Lawrence Smith, 88, was charged and is now free on $5,000 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.
