Caldwell ISD, residents celebrate ‘Wendy Weiss Day’

The Lady Hornet softball schedule listed last Friday night as a special one to honor the team’s seniors on “Senior Night.” However, those attending the game, including former Lady Hornets, were also there to honor the team’s longtime coach Wendy Weiss. Weiss recently announced her retirement after coaching Lady Hornet softball for 29 years -- as the coach credited for bringing softball to Caldwell High School.

Man charged in felony DWI case

Somerville police arrested a 58-year-old Bellville man on Monday, April 1, on a felony DWI charge after responding to a disturbance on State Highway 36 South in Somerville. John Everett Jasek was charged with DWI with three or more convictions and is now free on $5,000 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

A Somerville man was arrested on Friday, April 5, on an aggravated assault charge in connection with an attack on a woman in the 200 block of Lois Lane. Martin Jerome Pustka Jr., 31, was charged with aggravated assault causing serious bodily injury and remains in Burleson County custody on $50,000 bond, according to the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.

A College Station man was arrested on Friday, April 5, on a felony assault on a public servant charge after wrestling with a deputy during a drug arrest on F.M. 3058.

Five sentenced April 1 in 21st District Court
