CALDWELL PACK 181 held its annual Pinewood Derby on Saturday, April 18, at the Campbell-Williams VFW Post 4458. The Cub Scouts were joined by the Girl Scouts from Somerville.

The Burleson County Tribune received top honors at Saturday’s Texas Gulf Coast Press Association’s (TGCPA) Better Newspaper Contest awards ceremony -- earning the Division 1 Sweepstakes Award for top newspaper in the small weekly newspaper division.

Somerville OKs Atmos rate increase suspension

The Somerville City Council approved a 45day suspension of the Atmos Energy MidTexas GRIP (Gas Reliability Infrastructure Program) rate increase filing at its Tuesday, April 14, meeting.The proposed rate increase, which was filed on Feb. 20, would see residential energy rates increase from $25.

POSGCD board approves grants

The Post Oak Savannah Groundwater Conservation District Board awarded $946,870 grant funding to local water suppliers at its Tuesday, April 14, meeting.Those entities included Clay Water Supply Corp., for $253,000 for engineering analysis to reduce manganese; Centerline Water Supply Corp.

Caldwell begins administrator search

The City of Caldwell has hired Michael Boese as its interim city administrator and has begun the search for the permanent position.Boese, previously a city administrator in Wimberley, was hired at an April 7 special city council meeting, and he began on Tuesday, April 14.

Carr Cemetery gets Texas historic marker

The Carr Cemetery on County Road 217 has been formally recognized as a Texas Historic Cemetery by the Texas Historical Commission.The Texas Historical Commission recently authorized that designation, and a historical marker has been provided at that location.The cemetery, located about 2.
