Carter scores 1,000th point for SHS basketball

Somerville High School’s Brandyn Carter scored his 1,000th career point as a varsity Yeguas basketball player last Saturday in a road win at Burton. Carter reached the milestone on a 2-point rebound put-back shot in the Yeguas 80-37 win.

Lady Hornets bring back alumni game

After a one-year hiatus, the annual Lady Hornet Alumni Scrimmage is back! The game will be played this Saturday morning, Feb. 4, starting at 11 a.m. at Lady Hornet Field.

Somerville wins rival game over Snook 50-47

The Somerville Yeguas hit some key free throws late in the game and held on for a 50-47 road win over rival Snook. After a time-out, Snook missed a 3-point attempt with 3 seconds remaining that would have tied the score and sent it into overtime.

CHS Hornet soccer starts 2-0 in district

Last week, the Hornet soccer team began district play with a shootout win over Rockdale and a close call with Smithville. On Tuesday in Rockdale, it was both teams’ defense that shone. Caldwell took four shots on goal, and the Rockdale goalkeeper was able to keep the Hornets from finding the net.

Lady Yeguas edged out by Lady Jays 32-30

Last Tuesday, the Lady Yeguas visited their county rivals, the Lady Jays, and lost the game 32-30 as well as losing their leading scorer this season senior Ra’Maya Carter.

Boys, girls golf teams place fourth at Navasota

The Caldwell High School boys and girls golf teams each finished fourth last week in Navasota at Pecan Lakes Golf Club. It was their first tournament of the spring season. The boys shot a team score of 351 for fourth out of 12 teams in the Jan.

CHS tennis competes at Montgomery Bear

Last week, the Caldwell tennis team competed at the Montgomery Bear Invitational, and Hope Savage and Tilly Hicks won the consolation title for A Girls Doubles, and Dylan Chapman was the B Boys Singles consolation champ.
