Lady Hornet JV defeats Rockdale

The Lady Hornet JV basketball team defeated Rockdale last Tuesday 26-21 at home. Caldwell scored six points in the first quarter and were able to only allow the Lady Tigers two points in the first.

Caldwell High School Head Football Coach and Athletic Director Boone Patterson resigned on Wednesday, Nov. 9, and the district is preparing a search for his replacement.

Yeguas season ends in playoff loss to Granger

The Somerville Yeguas lost to Granger 60-13 last Friday, Nov. 11, in the bi-district playoff in Rockdale, ending their season at 4-7. The Yeguas finished the season 4-2 in District 14-2A Division II behind Burton and Falls City.

The Lady Hornets opened the 2022-2023 basketball season, going 1-1. Last Tuesday night, Caldwell beat Somerville on the road 4036. Caldwell senior Jae Mathis led all scorers with 25 points.

The Caldwell Hornets basketball team lost their opener 85-41 to Killeen Shoemaker last Friday in Killeen. Caldwell trailed 29-10 in the first quarter and 44-22 at the half. The Wolves led 61-32 after three quarters before a 24-9 run in the fourth.

The Somerville junior high girls basketball team beat Snook 32-15. Somerville’s V. Hernandez led all scorers with 14 points. Other scorers for the Lady Yeguas were: J. Isom, eight points; E.Williams, four points; A. Reyna, four points; L.Ellis, one point; G. Griffenstein, one point.

The Lady Yeguas opened up the 20222023 basketball season last week with two home losses -- a 36-40 loss to Caldwell last Tuesday (see related story in this issue) and a 26-59 loss to Smithville last Friday. Against Smithville, senior Ra’Maya Carter led Somerville with 19 points and three rebounds.
Against Class 1A Number 10 Moulton, Lara was a force under the basket, pulling down 10 rebounds -- eight defensively -- to help lead the Lady Jay defense to a onepoint win.
