-- It’s finally here, the moment we have been waiting 364 days since the last one was played. I haven’t had a whole lot of time to write my column lately, as you have probably noticed, but figured I would throw a few interesting facts your way.

Snook falls to Iola, defeats Burton

The Snook Bluejays fell to Iola 63-54 last Friday in Snook and defeated Burton 69-48 on Jan. 25 in Burton. Against Iola, Snook trailed 16-8 in the first quarter and 34-27 at halftime. Snook outscored Iola 12-7 in the third quarter to trim Iola’s lead to 41-39.

Yegua powerlifting places second at Swamp Meet

The Yegua powerlifting team was edged out of the team title by host school Altair Rice at last week’s Swamp Strength 3.0 Meet. Rice scored a total of 39 points to Somerville’s 38 for the top two team spots. Columbus was third in the team standings with 28 points.

Hornet soccer begins district

Last week, the Hornet soccer team began the 2022 district season, and future Hornet players helped make the start of the season special.

Snook Lady Jays fall to Burton, Iola

Last week, the Lady Jays lost two games in District 26-2A, falling to Burton and Iola. Last Tuesday, Snook traveled to Burton, losing a close game 42-37. Burton only had a twopoint lead going into the fourth quarter, but held on to win the game by five.

Hughson, Chapman advance to semis at Pflugerville tourney

The Caldwell High School varsity tennis team competed in its first tournament of the spring season -- the Pflugerville Panther Revival -- with Connor Hughson and Waylon Chapman advancing to the semifinals in Division A Boys Doubles.

Hornets fall behind early, lost to Academy 73-42

The Caldwell Hornets fell to Little River-Academy 73-42 last Friday at home, falling to 3-4 in district play and 13-15 overall. Academy led the whole way, 17-5 in the first quarter and 33-12 at halftime.

Lady Hornets finish fourth, boys fifth at Navasota

The Caldwell Hornets Golf Team has launched their season, with the girls finishing fourth and the boys finishing fifth at the Jan. 26 Navasota Tournament. Maegan Schneider finished second overall for the girls and shot a 94 for the day, while Alexis Zalobny was 12th overall with a 103.

Lady Yegua basketball falls to Iola, Normangee

The Lady Yeguas had a rough time last week in district play, falling to Iola and Normangee. Last Tuesday, Somerville hosted Iola, losing a close game 48-42. The Lady Yeguas were behind by one point at halftime 23-22, but fell further behind by the end of the third quarter 36-29.
